Beit Shean

Beit SheanWander through the massive ruins of the capitol of the Roman Decapolis (confederation of 10 cities), destroyed by earthquake in antiquity, and see its colonnaded main streets, public bathhouses and toilets, theatre and ruined temples.

Towering above the Roman/Byzantine city is Tel Beit Shean, an archaeological mound that goes back 5000 years, and the place where King Saul's body was hung from the wall of a Philistine temple (ISam.31: 8-13) a thousand years before the Romans.
